Butch Walker & The Black Widows - Synthesisers
Take Matthew McConaughey, put him back into character as Wooderson from Dazed & Confused, then also make a super-awesome video around a super-awesome pitch. I love this.

On working for "free"
A recent rumble in the internet jungle has turned my thoughts to working for free, and where / if it fits in the scheme of today’s arts culture.
The internet is now a place where there is a huge quantity of content - educational, artistic, or ahem, special interest, that is totally free. It’s a curious mix of amateur and professional, and very few people have bullet-proof ways of...
Us and them.
Rant. You have been warned.
Ten years ago, there were “creative people” and “academic people”. Moore’s Law of technology has destroyed this. We now have a world that moves so fast, changes so quickly, that the barriers have dissolved. There is no us and them - academia is freely available, and teachable, via the internet. Creativity is everywhere. Your phone means...

Films of 2011 - A rambly ramble
Hello! I watch a lot of films. This year, I’ve seen at least 60 new releases. But here’s the thing - 2011 has been very average for film. Sure, there’s been occasional highlights, but on the whole, everything was… OK. Franchises delivered in a safe way, most big budget offerings were “good” (in the 6-8 range on a 10 point scale) but very little stood out. Here...
My top ten records of the year →
The lovely ladies at The Ruckus blog asked me for my thoughts on records of the year. Here, for your sneering / agreeing / dull blank eyed stares, are those…
Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol: Review: Ish.
It’s NOT called MI:4, OK?
MI:4 lays it’s cards on the table in the early going. A funtime romp of a gulag-breakout is set to Dean Martin’s “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head”. The fighting is crunchy, the pace is lively, the action shot through with humour. It’s an odd mix, and one that skews noticeably younger than previous difficult missions (they all...

A collection of pictures of people’s faces and bodies that I took by pressing a button as light that bounced off them passed into my camera.
Katie Price with a monobrow.
I have a dirty confession to make. I’m not proud of it. It started, as most of these bad habits do, one late night with nothing better to do. And before I knew it, I had subscribed to the NME twitter feed.
This isn’t going to be an article debating the irrelevance of the NME - I actually love it as an institution, and the very fact it still exists shows it must be getting something...
How to fix X-Factor
I speak as someone who has sat through every series loyally. With the ratings falling, tabloids riled against them, and contestants and judges threatening to quit, X-Factor has had an anus horriblis (no, I’m not talking about Kitty. Well.. ish). Here are my ten suggestions to restore it to it’s heyday of must-watch TV….
LOSE THE SCRIPT.
Every season has well trodden character...
apologies
I’m going to write a rant here on how to fix X-Factor. Many of you won’t care. I’ll try to at least make it funny.

Audience research.
I’m working on a project with Frank. I don’t think it’s “secret”, but just in case, I shan’t go into details. Anyway, as part of this, I’ve found a great deal of photos I had forgotten about, and am considering doing a run of prints again. I need YOU for audience research. Using the “ask me” button, I would like answers to some / all of these...

A musing, on Youtube
Anyone that watches a video in 360, when there’s an HD option, should have their legs snapped like dry twigs. The audio AND picture are exponentially better, fools.
